I love these candied orange slices. I use them for decorating all sorts of desserts, plus they make awesome holiday gifts. These sugarcoated candied candies are super simple to make. You can use them right away or store them in the fridge for up to a week. You can even dip them in melted chocolate for a fun edible gift that everyone will enjoy!

Ingredients

4 small oranges, such as tangelos

ice water

4 c. (800 grams) granulated sugar, plus more for coating

8 c. (1920 ml) water, divided

How to make Candied Orange Slices

Step 1: With ice water, fill a large bowl and set aside.

Step 2: To a large saucepan, pour in 4 c. (960ml) of regular water. Bring the water to a boil on high heat. Once boiling, add the slices of orange and let it boil for about 2 minutes. To the bowl of ice water, transfer the orange slices. Discard the boiled orange water.

Step 3: Add the rest of the 4 c. (960ml) of water in the same saucepan. Then, add the sugar and bring the mixture to a boil on medium heat, stirring often until the sugar has fully dissolved.

Step 4: Adjust the heat to medium-low, then add the oranges slices. Let the mixture simmer for about 45 to 60 minutes or until the rinds of the orange slices are a little translucent. Every 15 minutes, gently swirl the oranges to ensure they are coated evenly with the sugar water.

Step 5: To a cooling rack set over a large baking sheet, transfer the slices and allow them to dry for up to 24 hours.

Step 6: If desired, you can dip the candied orange slices in granulated sugar. Use the candied orange slices right away or keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a month.

Note:

For a fun edible gift, dip the dried oranges in melted chocolate.
