This dish is packed with amazing flavors. This bacon-fried cabbage is excellent either for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. And this pairs great with chicken, meatballs, meatloaf, tenderloin, and more! You can even enjoy it as a meal by itself or as a delicious side dish.
Ingredients
5 cloves garlic (minced)
1 lb. sliced bacon (chopped into 1-inch pieces)
1 medium head cabbage (cored and chopped)
1 tsp dried oregano
1 onion (finely sliced)
1 tsp smoked paprika
Chopped green onion, for garnish
1/4 tsp ground black pepper (or to taste)
1 tsp Kosher salt (or to taste)
How to make Easy Bacon Fried Cabbage
Step 1: Heat a large cast-iron skillet or non-stick deep pan on medium-high heat. Once hot, add the bacon pieces in a single layer and cook until crispy. On a plate, transfer the bacon and set aside.
Step 2: Remove and discard the grease, leaving about 2 to 3 tbsp of the grease in the pan.
Step 3: In the same pan in the remaining bacon grease, saute the sliced onions for about 2 to 3 minutes or until tender.
Step 4: Toss in the chopped cabbage and season with salt, pepper, oregano, and smoked paprika. Cook for about 15 minutes until tender, yet still slightly crispy. Stir and adjust the seasoning according to taste. You can adjust the heat to medium-low if needed. Put the lid on and continue to cook for another 10 minutes until the cabbage is tender to your liking.
Step 5: Next, add the garlic. Return the bacon to the pan and cook the cabbage for 3 to 4 minutes more.
Step 6: Remove from the heat and serve the bacon-fried cabbage immediately, garnished with some chopped green onions. Enjoy!
