These Greek Meatballs are one of the ultimate meatball recipes! The meatballs are amazingly flavored with red onion, parsley, dried oregano, and a dash of mint with an incredibly slightly crisp surface. Serve these as appetizers or for dinner with a Greek salad on the side.

Ingredients

MEATBALLS:

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

500 grams/1 pound beef mince (ground beef or lamb)

200 grams/ 6.5 ounces pork mince (ground pork), or more beef

1 red onion, grated

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 c./60 grams panko breadcrumbs

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1 egg

3/4 teaspoon salt

Black pepper

1/4 c. fresh parsley, finely chopped

6 large mint leaves, finely chopped (or use spearmint)

COOKING/SERVING:

3 tablespoons olive oil

1/2 c. flour and white

Tzatziki or Greek yogurt

Finely chopped parsley, optional, for garnish

How to make Greek Meatballs

Step 1: Into a large bowl, grate the onions. Add the rest of the meatball ingredients. Mix well using your hands for a couple of minutes until blended and you have a quite smooth mixture.
You can keep this in the fridge for about an hour as it makes them easier to roll (optional).

Step 2: On a work surface, measure out heaped tablespoons of the mixture and shape them into balls to make 32 to 35 pieces.

Step 3: In a large skillet, heat most of the oil on medium-high heat, making sure to use enough oil to cover the bottom of the skillet.

Step 4: Lightly coat the meatballs in flour, shaking the excess off. Add the meatballs to the hot oil in 2 to 3 batches. Roll the meatballs around and sear for about 5 to 6 minutes until all sides are nicely browned. Onto a plate, transfer the meatballs and keep them warm. Cook the rest of the meatballs.
You can also bake the meatballs. Make sure to grease them generously with olive oil, then bake for about 20 minutes at 180 degrees C or 350 degrees F until browned.

Step 5: Serve the Greek Meatballs as a starter with tzatziki or pita bread. They are also delicious to serve on dinner plates with a Greek salad on the side. Enjoy!
