Old Fashioned Goulash

Simple and delicious! This Old-fashioned Goulash is made with ground beef, tomatoes, and macaroni. Goulash tastes more like spaghetti, but with paprika in it, making the taste change a little. Also, I prefer the texture of the goulash because of the perfect meat and noodle ratio, plus the shape of the macaroni. I like this Goulash as is, but if you prefer yours to be more like a soup, simply add extra liquid.

Ingredients

2 pounds Lean Ground Beef or Ground Turkey

2 tbsp Olive Oil

3 large cloves Garlic, pressed or finely minced

1 large Yellow Onion, diced

2 large Bay Leaves

1 c. Low Sodium Beef Broth (use chicken broth if using ground turkey)

2 – 15-oz. cans of Tomato Sauce

2 tsp Low Sodium Soy Sauce (or Worcestershire sauce)

2 – 14.5-oz. cans of Diced Tomatoes with juice, or stewed tomatoes

2 tsp Seasoned Salt (such as Johnny’s®)

2 c. Uncooked Small Elbow Macaroni

1 tsp Black Pepper

1 tbsp Paprika

2 tsp Italian Seasoning

How to make Old Fashioned Goulash

Step 1: Add oil to a hot dutch oven or soup pot on med-high heat. Add ground beef or turkey. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring often until browned. Then, remove the excess grease.

Step 2: To the pot, add the diced onion, garlic, and bay leaves. Continue to cook for another 4 minutes, stirring often.

Step 3: Pour in the broth and add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, soy sauce, seasoned salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika. Mix well.

Step 4: Adjust the heat to low. Put the lid on and cook for additional 15 minutes, stirring often.

Step 5: Toss in the uncooked macaroni noodles. Replace the lid and continue to cook for another 15 to 25 minutes or until the pasta is done.

Step 6: Remove the bay leaves and discard them. Serve the Goulash immediately. Enjoy!

Note:

Increase the beef broth to 1 cup or so if you prefer the goulash more like a soup.
