This casserole has become a regular in our menu rotation. Our favorite go-to for an easy and filling weeknight meal. We like pairing this with a simple side salad leftovers are also great!
Ingredients
2 tbsp butter
1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb small shells
32 oz. beef stock, plus 32 oz. water
2 garlic cloves, minced
8 oz. cream cheese
1/2 yellow onion, diced
1 green pepper, diced
1 c. shredded mozzarella
6 slices provolone cheese
1/2 c. reserved pasta water
How to make Philly Cheese Steak Casserole
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees.
Step 2: Following the package directions, cook the shells in a combination of beef stock and 32 ounces of water. Set aside a half cup of pasta water.
Step 3: Melt the butter in an oven-proof skillet. Once melted, add the garlic clove and saute for about 30 seconds. Then, add the bell pepper along with the onion. Continue to cook for another 5 minutes until tender.
Step 4: Toss in the ground beef and season with salt and pepper. Cook further until completely cooked. Then, drain the excess grease and return to the heat. After, stir in the cream cheese until fully melted.
Step 5: Add the reserved pasta water. Next, the noodles and shredded mozzarella.
Step 6: On top, place the sliced provolone.
Step 7: Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 to 25 minutes or until the cheese has melted.
Note:
You can transfer everything to a greased 9 x 13-inch baking dish if not using an oven-proof skillet. On top, add the provolone and bake as directed.
