This slow-cooker apple butter is a rich and flavorful spread perfect on toast or use in other recipes. This apple butter is thick, cinnamon-spiced, and super easy to make in your slow cooker. Store this apple butter in the fridge for up to a week or in the freezer for up to a year.

Ingredients

1 c. brown sugar, packed

5 pounds of apples – or use any variety. I used gala.

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

2 dashes salt

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

How to make Slow Cooker Apple Butter

Step 1: After peeling the apples, core and slice them.

Step 2: To the slow cooker, add the apples. Then, add the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Stir well.

Step 3: Set to cook for 5 hours on high or 8 to 10 hours on low.

Step 4: Into a blender, transfer the cooked apples and any liquid from the slow cooker. Put the lid on and top with a towel. While blending, hold the lid on. Pulse for a minute until you have a very smooth mixture. Alternatively, you can use an immersion blender right in the slow cooker.

Notes:

For this recipe, you are also welcome to use apple pie spice in place of the individual spices. Use 1 tbsp apple pie spice plus 1 tsp.

You can use the apple butter on:
Biscuits
Toast or croissants
Use in milkshakes
On ice-cream

To thicken the apple butter, leave the apple butter in the slow cooker after blending. Set the slow cooker on high for about 45 to 60 minutes with the lid off, stirring occasionally.

You can keep the apple butter in small plastic or glass containers and store it in the fridge for up to 1 week.

To freeze, transfer the apple butter to straight-sided mason jars, leaving about an inch of room at the top. Store in the freezer for up to 1 year.

The day before serving, thaw the frozen apple butter in the fridge.
